In stark contrast to the adaptive Terrans and feral Zerg are stolid, conservative Protoss. With their highly advanced technology and potent psionic abilities, the Protoss has long considered themselves the most powerful species in the known galaxy. Although they are not a prolific people, they have learned to bolster there ranks of their military with robotic war machines and to combine their intrinsic psionic ability with technology, thus producing some of the most effective warriors ever known. If the Protoss have a weakness, though, it is their refusal to accept change. The tenets of the Khala form a rigid path, and the Protoss are loathe to deviate from it for fear of once again falling into civil strife.

Strengths

Weaknesses

As mentioned earlier, the Protoss are unique in that all of their units and buildings have shields, making them able to withstand quite a pounding. Properly placed shield batteries also give their defensive forces the ability to outlast almost anything that is thrown at them.

Because of the fact that a probe doesn't have to stay and construct a building like worker units in the other races, whole expansion bases can be constructed with a single probe, which is a significant time saver when expanding

With the addition of shields to Scouts, Carriers, and Aribiters, the Protoss is the undisputed masters of air combat. Fully upgraded Carriers when coupled with Scouts are an awesome sight when in the process of leveling an enemy base.

One word: Dragoons. A group of a dozen of these puppies, fully upgraded, can handle almost anything, both in the air and on the ground.

Because of the fact that buildings rely on the energy field of pylons, once a pylon is destroyed, all buildings and stationary defense units become nonfunctional, which is a significant detriment during combat.

Reavers, while powerful, just don't have as great a range as a Terran Arcilite Siege Tank in siege mode.

Protoss units are far more expensive than those of any other race, making you reliant on huge amounts of resource-gathering probes to maintain your military.

You are often forced to micromanage two of your most powerful units, the Reaver and the Carrier, during combat, because of the constant destruction of their Scarabs and Interceptors, which can be annoying, and spell certain doom for new commanders.

Because of the expense of their units, and slow initial building process, Protoss players are often vulnerable to Zerg rushes.
